Tips on dealing with a bacterial infection
I am currently recovering from a very nasty bacterial infection.  This has been no fun at all, but I must say - I’ve learned a few things that I think are worth sharing.  Let’s start with the basics - get to the doctor sooner rather than later.  I tend to put things off, I have a strong belief that the body has an incredible capacity to heal itself.  I am an idiot, as my husband and...

my first - very own - recipe!!
I am a recipe follower - not a recipe creator.  I am a virgo, details are my thing.  (well…except when it comes to laundry and dusting….)  When I was a little girl, one of our dinner staples was City Chicken, silly me, I never knew it wasn’t really chicken.  I haven’t had City Chicken in many, many years.  Last weekend, we went to one of our favorite farms...

Joel Salatin answers the question, "What Can I... →
My favorite quote of this article is, “We must stop this incessant victimhood mentality.  Somebody else will not fix things.  Somebody else will not make me healthy;  somebody else will not make me happy.  These things are my responsibility.”

Harvest Day
Today I got to experience preparing for a Farmer’s Market, from the farmers point of view.  Harvest like a crazy person - then wash/bag/weigh/pack like a crazier person.  George, the owner/farmer where am I now working, calls these days, “Fire drills.”   He had to leave for the market by 2:00 pm, I got there at 9:00 am and George, with his brother Scott, were already in full...

help
OK - I’ve been posting - I have a few followers - I have no clue how to respond to comments to my posts.  What am I missing????  I’m not antisocial - I’m anti-computer-literate.   My job interview turned out to be the farmer giving me tasks to do and seeing if I could/would do them.  Not only did I do them - I enjoyed it.  I cut and washed spinach then I transplanted 100 tomato...

I have a working interview today. My first interview in 15 years. The first 30 years of my working life was spent indoors, today I am interviewing to be seasonal help on an organic vegetable farm. It’s manual labor, it’s minimum wage. I hope I get the job.

Unexpected opportunity
One of the joys of being, unexpectedly, unemployed is the time I now have to devote to my family.  My sons are 16 and 18 years old - I have worked full time their entire lives.  My husband has always done all of the grocery shopping and cooking.  He always said he enjoyed it, until I started doing it.  The men in my life are truly enjoying my time and attention. I haven’t...

Today
For the first time in 30 years - I do not have a job to go to.  Now I need to figure out a way for us to support ourselves on one income.  That in itself may be my new full time job.

Roasted Pork Shoulder
I wish I had taken a picture of this meal!  Not that I’m great at food photography, but this shoulder was awesome and pictures do say a thousand words….I’ll keep my description briefer than that… 3 pound pork shoulder 5 cloves of garlic - mashed fresh oregano (I didn’t measure - just added enough to look good) 3 Tablespoons of Kosher salt 3 Tablespoons Canola...
